Meth arrests
Three persons were arrested following a weekend traffic stop by Newport authorities. Patrol Officer Brandon Cassidy said he stopped Brandon James, 28, Alex Street, Newport, who said there was nothing illegal in his vehicle "that he knew of." But a subsequent search revealed hypodermic needles, a scales and 2.2 grams of methamphetamine. As a result James is charged with possession of methamphetamine for re-sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a revoked license, a registration violation and no insurance. A passenger, Angel James, 27, of the same address, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for re-sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Another passenger in the vehicle, George Jackson, 43, also of the same address, is charged with two counts of theft. He allegedly pawned a table saw and air compressor, owned by his father for a total of $65.
