Russell charged with crack cocaine offense
A Newport man faces charges after his vehicle was searched on Monday. Cocke County Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg said officials of American Appliance reported a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the plant, asking that it be removed. Lt. Gregg said upon arriving on the scene he found Shawn Philip Russell, 30, Jones Circle, Newport, seated in a car with a female. But the officer was told that Russell had driven the suspect auto to the location. The white Tahoe had an odor of marijuana, and after Lt. Gregg determined that Russell was on parole, the officer contacted the suspect's parole officer. The parole officer then arrived on the scene, searched the suspect vehicle and confiscated 17 grams of suspected crack cocaine, marijuana,a digital scales and pipe, a Suboxone strip, along with $1,372 in cash. Now Russell is charged with possession of crack cocaine for resale, possession of Suboxone and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
