Latest Kids Count stats for Cocke and Jefferson counties
The latest Kids Count is out, ranking counties in the Volunteer State with regard to children's wellness perimeters. Cocke County is ranked 93rd. in the state with regard to the percentage of children living in poverty..... 90th. in substantiated child abuse and neglect cases...... 91st. in the level of pregnancies in girls aged 15 to 17..... 71st. in the deaths of children 14 or younger...... 69th in the level of school suspensions, but only 8th. statewide in the percentage of children without health insurance. The county ranks 74th. in the overall condition of children statewide. Jefferson County ranks 84th. in the ranking for substantiated child abuse cases, and 64th. in the number of school suspensions. In 2015 more than 6,100 kids or 73 percent in Cocke County were on TennCare, and in Jefferson County, 7,200 or 55 percent were on TennCare.
