Cogdill crash
Authorities do not know how long a Cocke County man had been pinned under his overturned truck Sunday morning, before a passing motorist came upon the wreckage. Trooper Jeff Coffey of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said he was dispatched to the Hartford Road, at 4 a.m., where he found Charles Cogdill, 25, Caney Creek Road, Cosby, who was unconscious but breathing. "His 1994 Ford Ranger pickup left the roadway on the left, struck a rock embankment and rolled coming to rest on the passenger side on the roadway. He was partially ejected and his head was pinned between the truck and the roadway," the officer said. Personnel with the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department arrived quickly and used their air bags to left the vehicle. They were joined by the Cocke County Sheriff and Fire Departments, and the Newport Rescue Squad in removing the roof of the pickup so the injured Cogdill could be removed from the cab. First Call EMS transported the injured man who later was flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. "I don't know when the crash occurred, but the engine of the truck was not very warm. He was not wearing his seatbelt; wear your seatbelt, you can't stress that enough," Trooper Coffey told the NewsSource. The trooper said the crash scene was like he had never seen before. "I've never seen anything like this in 27 years as a paramedic and a trooper," he said. Officer Coffey said at last report, Cogdill was in stable condition in the Trauma ICU. The results of a toxicology test are pending.
