Smith death
Newport authorities are investigating the Friday death of a Cocke County woman who was taken to the Newport Medical Center by an unidentified male. Patrol Officer Joshua Bigus said Tanya Renea Smith, 52, Starlight Drive, Newport, was dropped off at 4:53 am by a maqn who was driving a black car. Ms. Smith was unresponsive when she arrived, and medical staff began working on her, however the officer says she could not be revived. Investigators say she was dead on arrival. Newport Detective Captain Scott Lamb is heading up the investigation into the death.
