Shelton crash details released
Cocke County authorities have released details regarding a May 4th. crash with injuries on Rock Hill Road. Deputy David Moriarty said he responded to the crash with injuries where he found Franklin Shelton III, 24, Irish Cut Road, Newport, with a large amount of facial bleeding. The subject reportedly admitted to taking methadone and suboxone. Officers also found a glass pipe and burn marks on the grass, and a vile of suspected methamphetamine was found nearby. A witness, Melissa Gulley told officers that Shelton was driving erratically and nearly hit her vehicle before he left the roadway and struck a large tree. Shelton was taken by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center and he then was transferred to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Now Officer Moriarty has charged him with DUI, failure to exercise due care and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
