Imus guilty plea
A Cocke County man, in Cocke County Circuit Court this week pleaded guilty to a sexual battery charge and received a six year sentence. Willie Ray Imus, 57, Meckler Way, Newport, was on parole for a Jefferson County murder, when he was charged with rape of a child in 2015. Investigators said Imus opened his home to several boys who played video games on his X-Box on several occasions. Imus took a 12 year-old to his bedroom which was painted pink, and with pink sheets on the bed, where the boy was sexually assaulted. The incidents reportedly came to light when one of the other boys observed the activity. As a result of the alleged offense, Imus was also charged with violating his parole on the murder charge, for which he was given a life sentence but released in January, 2012. Assistant DA Joanne Sheldon said the mother of the boy, wanted the resolution so her son, who is in therapy would not have to testify. The six years will be served consecutive to the parole violation. Imus may have no contact with his victim, the boy's family or witnesses. Public Defender Keith Haas said Imus will not be up for parole on the murder conviction for at least five years.
