National Police Week This week is National Police week across the nation. Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes and Newport Police Chief Maurice Shults encourage residents to remember the law enforcement officers who have lost their lives making this a better and safer country for us all. Sheriff Fontes and Chief Shults point to the dedication and sacrifices that law enforcement officers in Newport and Cocke County provide to serve and protect the great community in which we live. The officials also express appreciation to the citizens of Newport and Cocke County for their continued support of law enforcement. They expressed appreciation for all the recognition that has been expressed for both agencies throughout the past week. And the officials say, “Rest assured that both agencies are working together to honor and serve this community.”
