McGhee is indicted
A Cocke County man who allegedly transferred the vehicle identification number from a 1955 Chevrolet to a restored stolen one, has been indicted by a Greeneville federal grand jury. Federal investigators say Brent Wilson McGhee of Newport transferred the number from the junked car to the stolen vehicle which later sold at auction for $68,000. The indictment says McGhee bought the junker car for $1,500, transferred the VIN to the nice stolen one, and then sold it to a Florida buyer. Prosecutors want McGhee to pay back the $68,285 auction price.
