Newport couple charged with child abuse or neglect
A Newport couple was jailed Thursday on charges of child abuse or neglect, on warrants obtained by Cocke County Deputy Lt. Michael Whitmer. Roth Jenkins, 36, and Sandra Loveday, 32, Maple Lane, Newport were arrested by Newport Sgt. Derek Woods and Patrol Officer Josh Holt. While on routine patrol on Thursday, the officer says he observed children aged six and 13, playing outside the home which had lots of trash and debris piled up outside. An inspection of the interior revealed bugs and flies on old food and in the refrigerator and freezer. There also was lots of trash piled up throughout the residence.
