Assistance for low-income farmers
The US Department of Agriculture has scheduled a meeting in Newport to assist socially disadvantaged farmers, limited resource farmers and beginning farmers. A review of USDA and Extension outreach programs will answer questions of farmers in the designated categories. It is aimed at farmers in low-income counties. Representatives from Rural Development, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency and the Cocke County Ag Extension Office will speak and answer questions. The meeting is planned for 10:30 am, July 19 in the Cocke County Chancery Courtroom on Main Street in Newport.
