Newport Utilities theft
Newport authorities are investigating the Wednesday morning theft of a 2009 Ford F150 pickup, along with copper materials taken from the Newport Utilities Distribution Center on West Highway 25/70. Patrol Officer Bobby Henderson said he responded to the site at 8 am and was told by Supervisor Kevin Woods that the burglary occurred between 1:37 am and 2:37 am. Video surveillance shows three masked individuals entering the fenced area, removing two chainsaws, a cooler with drinks, as well as copper wire and copper clamps from several utility trucks. The items valued at $2,500 were placed on the pickup truck, after a fence was cut to gain access to the vehicle. The truck was driven through the fence and a field to West Highway 25/70. It was found parked behind a nearby residence, with a flat front tire, however the stolen items were missing.
