Buchanan charged with Attempted First Degree Murder
A Jefferson County man is in custody in connection with a July 12 incident in which he allegedly attempted to kill his girlfriend in Cocke County. Cocke County Detective Lt. Robert Thornton said Allen Michael Buchanan, 28, Milldale Road, Dandridge was to take his girlfriend, Brittany Talley, Cottage Hill Circle, New Market, to see her probation officer. The woman was picked up at a residence on Old Newport Highway, Newport, but Buchanan began accusing her of cheating on him. Following an argument, Buchananan took Talley back home. There he dragged her from the car by her feet, and then punched and kicked the victim as she lay on the ground. When Talley ran away going into the home, Buchanan allegedly pulled a handgun on her, threatened to kill her and then fired a shot at her after she ran into a bedroom. She later heard two more shots. Another subject stepped between the two, and Buchanan walked outside, telling Talley if she came outside he would kill her. Lt. Thornton said he recovered two casings from a .38 handgun in the home, and also found three bullet holes in the bedroom door. Cocke County Deputy Jonathan Ball said Hamblen County authorities arrested Buchanan on Sunday, and he was transferred to Cocke County jurisdiction. He is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder as well as Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon. Buchanan is being held in the Cocke County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
