Haney in serious condition
A Newport man is in serious condition following an ATV crash in the Del Rio community Saturday evening. Cocke County Deputy Sgt. Bob Schaff said Grady Kirk Haney, 38, Travis Way, Newport was riding on the four-wheeler on Blue Mill Road at 9:30 pm,as the ATV was operated by his son, Jacob, 13. The officer said the ATV went off the roadway, down an embankment and struck a tree. Volunteers with the Del Rio Volunteer Fire Department assisted sheriff's deputies and First Call EMS personnel in carrying the two injured, to an ambulance. They were taken to the Del Rio Elementary School and then flown by medical helicopter to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Today Grady Haney, with head, shoulder and wrist injuries, is listed in serious condition, however the hospital says Jacob Haney is not a patient.
