Smith arrest
A man who this morning contacted Newport authorities to say his car had been stolen, will soon head back to a Texas jail. Wilfred Martel Smith, 33, Sevierville told Cocke County Deppuy Heath Willis that he car pools with other employees of American Appliance, and he allowed a fellow employee to drive his silver Honda Accord. But Smith didn't know the names of the fellow employees. While in Brock's Market, just after midnight, Smith says the occupants of his car drove away. Officer Willis determined that Smith is wanted in Texas for the felony possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, so he was jailed as a fugitive from justice. Texas says it will extradite Smith.
