Cocke and Newport schools closed for solar eclipse
The Cocke County School Board meeting Thursday approved a contract with the Newport City Board of Education to provide a certified band instructor to the city school. Newport Grammar will pay the county school system $4,000 annually to instruct sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Board members approved the use of schools for rabies clinics in September. Clinics will be held at Bridgeport, Parrottsville, Centerview and Edgemont on the 9th., and on the 16th at Cosby, Smoky Mountain, Grassy Fork, and Del Rio Nature Center. Cocke County Schools and Newport Grammar School will be closed on August 21 so that students can experience the solar eclipse.
