Lee touts vouchers
Republican candidate for Tennessee governor, Bill Lee has announced his support for school vouchers during an interview with the Beacon Center of Tennessee. The conservative organization is a strong supporter of vouchers which would siphon money from public schools to fund private schools. Lee said his children were home schooled, educated in private schools and also attended public schools. " The reason that we had different kids educated different ways in my family is that I really do believe fundamentally that how my children are educated and where they are educated those decisions are best made at home, so parents need choices and they need options,” Lee said. The candidate said he supports school choice in all of Tennessee. In the past, vouchers have been defeated by a coalition of urban and rural lawmakers who understand that they would move money from already cash strapped schools. Lee also argued for legislation to prevent public entities such a public school boards, from lobbying against vouchers.
