Cocke Grand Jury A Cocke County Grand Jury meeting this week returned indictments naming a number of defendants. Michael David Britt, 33, Mineral Street, Newport,was indicted on charges of aggravated rape, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping. The charges are in connection with a May incident in which he allegedly strangled a woman until she was unconscious and then allegedly used a hypodermic needle to shoot drugs into her arms against her will. Authorities say Britt threatened to kill the victim, to cut off the fingers and toes of her son, and he then sexually assaulted her. The indictment says the victim was "terrorized" and sustained injuries to her arms, face, head and chest, as well as other areas of her body. Ryan John Wolbert, 39, Apple Valley Way, Newport, is indicted on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation of Brittany Fine in April and the assault of Shaleen Raines the same day. Wolbert also is charged with the sale of counterfeit methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of property valued at over $1,000 from Billy Ball, two counts failure to appear for a court hearing and driving on a revoked license. Misty Wilson, 37, Driftwood Road, Cosby is indicted on a charge that she as a convicted felon possessed weapons. When officers went to the Wilson home they found 10 long guns, two handguns and ammunition. The defendant at the time was on probation for the attempted delivery of methamphetamine. James Barrett, 30, Point Oak Drive, Parrottsville, didn't show for his circuit court hearing in May but later did come to court. Because of his suspicious behavior, Judge Ben Hooper ordered Barrett to be drug screened. As Deputy Chris Barnes escorted Barrett for the screen, the defendant turned and sprinted out of the courthouse. But he was tackled in the hallway and charged with jail escape, in addition to the original charges of aggravated assault and accessory after the fact. Thomas(Dax) Martin, Jr, 46, Old Cave Church Road, Newport, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, Oxymorphone, buprenorphine, and Alprazolam with the intent to sell and deliver, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. A Newport woman is charged in a July raid on her Smith Street, Newport home. Denise Kay Sisk,44, faces charges of; Possession of Schedule II Oxymorphone, Methamphetamine, and Oxycodone with the intent to sell and deliver as well as Possession of drug paraphernalia.
