Walgreens clerk injured
A clerk at the Newport Walgreens store sustained minor injuries Thursday when she tried to stop a cigarette shoplifter. Newport Captain Stephen Higginbotham was told by clerk Mersadez Wallin that the white male went behind the counter, grabbed eight packs of cigarettes and headed to the door. Wallin said she told the man to "drop them", but he pushed her out of the way and fled out the door. The shoplifter, who dropped his Apple iPhone as he fled, is described as 5'8" to 5'11" tall, wearing a navy and gray zip-up hoodie, black basketball shorts and white athletic shoes.
