Murder suspect arrested in Dandridge
A man wanted for questioning by Indiana and Kentucky authorities was arrested in Dandridge on Tuesday. Dandridge Police Sgt. Doug Atkins says his department was notified by Cocke County 911 dispatch that the suspect was at the 417 Pilot Travel Center off I-40 at 1:39 pm. Dandridge officers arrived on scene, checked the premises for the suspect and found him in the laundry area of the business. Dwight Mitchell Bell, 41, Lexington, Kentucky, was wanted for Felony Auto Theft and for questioning in a murder investigation that had taken place in Somerset, Kentucky. Bell was taken into custody without incident and held for Somerset Police. On August 24, Somerset police investigated the death of 70-year-old Ruthie Carolyn New who was found dead inside the fellowship hall of Denham Street Baptist Church. The pastor of the church found her body around 3:40 p.m. after relatives filed a missing person report 30 minutes earlier. Family members say New was the widow of the former pastor and was cleaning in the church when she was killed. Bell allegedly fled in the victim's car. He also is wanted in Henry County, Indiana on a Strangulation charge.
