Lt. Lawson on medical leave
A Newport Police Shift Commander is on medical leave following a two-week suspension. City Manager James Finchum says Lt. Terry Lawson, who has been with the department since the 1990's, was the object of an internal complaint. Finchum says Lt. Lawson has been on medical leave since September 11. "He had just served a 14 day suspension and that was over a harassment allegation made by another officer, not sexual harassment, more a hostile work environment. Asst. Chief Steve Hudson conducted an investigation and found merit to the allegation and so he was suspended for 14 days. As soon as he came back to work he went out on medical leave." Another Newport Police shift commander, Lt. Brad Ball also is on medical leave after he sustained an off-duty leg injury several weeks ago.
