Weekend assaults in Cocke County
Cocke County authorities investigated a number of serious assault incidents over the weekend. Mary C. Huff, 50, Kelp Road, Newport was jailed by Deputy Michael Shelton. Huff allegedly walked to the Clifford Hurst residence, and while Hurst unloaded his groceries, Shelton pointed a handgun at him. She allegedly told Hurst," I didn't get your attention when I ran through your fence now I'm gonna blow your brains out. According to Hurst, Huff pulled the trigger several times but the gun did not fire. At that point, Hurst ran into his home and called 911. Donna McGaha said she confronted Huff about the incident involving her father and the suspect pointed the gun at her saying,"I will kill you both". She then allegedly pulled the trigger of the handgun but it did not fire. Now Huff is charged with two counts aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Danny Lee Sharp, 45, Gossamer Road, Cosby, was jailed by Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg, after he allegedly chased his wife Pamela with a butcher knife and she locked herself in an auto for protection. Witnesses said he smashed out a window of the auto in an attempt to strike his wife. Then Sharp ran into a nearby wooded area. Sharp also had allegedly slapped his wife on the face, and took her phone to prevent her from calling authorities. The subject was arrested about 100 yards from the scene of the incident and was jailed on charges of aggravated domestic assault, vandalism and interference with an emergency call. Kelly Hall, 41, Cabbage County Road, Hartford, was jailed by Deputy Joseph Owings on aggravated domestic assault charges. When the officer responded to the residence Sunday morning he found Tara Diana Ford, lying in the roadway calling for help. She said Hall had demanded her medication, and then struck her on the head with a hammer, before choking her. Ford also said she was dragged through the house by her hair, and was then thrown off the porch railing. Kenneth Doak Barnett, 41, Wileytown Road, Newport, was jailed by Deputy Joseph Owings on domestic assault charges on Sunday. Lonnie Lee Lane said Barnett cursed him, shoved him down several times and he then was hit on the face by Barnett. The injured man was found at his nearby home with a severe cut to his arm. and he also9 had facial injuries. As a result, Lane was transported by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center for treatment.
