Davis sentenced
A Morristown man who was charged in a 2016 fatal crash in Jefferson County has been given a four-year sentence. Zachary N. Davis, 22, West 11th. Street, Morristown, was taken into custody on May 20, 2016 on a warrant obtained by Sgt. Jimmy Cardwell. His deceased passenger was identified as Cleit Lance Everhart, 38, of Morristown. Jefferson City officers responded to the crash at the Marathon on Highway 11E at 1:16 am and reported that a car had struck a supporting post attached to the roof covering the fuel pumps. Sgt. Ben Hammer and K-9 Officer Rick Johnson attempted resuscitation of Everhart who was in the vehicle but were unable to revive him. Investigators later determined that Davis had fled the scene on foot. He was spotted several hours later by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy as he walked in the vicinity of the crash. Davis was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. This week in Jefferson County Circuit Court, the defendant entered a guilty plea to charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a revoked license. Judge Duane Slone imposed the four-year sentence, ordered Davis to serve 45 days in jail, with the balance of the term to be served on supervised probation.
