Two inmates face additional charges
Two Cocke County jail inmates who Thursday morning attacked two corrections officers, now face additional charges. Ezekiel Thompson, 25, Lower Bogard Road, Newport and James Shelton, 41, Cooper Street, Newport, now have been charged with Aggravated Assault and Conspiracy to Commit Jail Escape. Thompson escaped the jail after Correction Officers Randy Legeese and Jack Miller were assaulted, and Legeese sustained a serious head injury. Shelton was not able to escape. The escapee was captured 12 hours after the 5:30 am escape, after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation had added him to it's Top 10 Most Wanted list. He also is charged with Evading Arrest and Felony Jail Escape. Shelton was being held on multiple charges of Aggravated Assault, as well as Reckless Endangerment with a Weapon, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Possession of Schedule II and VI Controlled Substances. Thompson was being held on a number of charges stemming from a police pursuit earlier in the year. His bond is set at $250,000.
