Strong charged with attempted murder
A Cocke County woman is in custody on charges she tried to kill her husband on Saturday. Cocke County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Gregg said he responded to the Newport Medical Center at 3:45 am, where he talked to Larry Strong, 62, Boone Road, Newport. Strong had sustained two stab wounds to his arm, as well as a large laceration to his back. The injured man reported that he had argued with his 44 year-old wife Rebecca Strong. He said Mrs. Strong had broken things and then destroyed the home. Mr. Strong said his wife asked that he pay attention to her, and he told her to first clean up the items she had broken. At that point, Mrs. Strong allegedly grabbed a curved blade knife, and cut him. A physician said the laceration to Strong's back lacerated arteries, and so he was transferred to the UT Medical Center. Officers who went to the Strong home w\ere told by Mrs. Strong that she had thrown a piece of glass at her husband but after further questioning, she admitted using a knife in the attack and she then showed investigators where she had hidden the weapon. Mrs. Strong was jailed on charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Domestic Assault and Filing a False Police Report.
