Attempted jail escape
Two Cocke County Jail inmates face charges after they allegedly attempted to escape on Wednesday. Deputy Sgt. Max Laughter said Joshua Allen Whaley, 29, of Sevierville and Samuel William Warren, 30, Clevenger Cut-Off Road, Newport, were being escorted back to their cell from the recreation yard when the two inmates ran toward the control room door. When unable to open it, they ran through the kitchen to a rear loading dock, but that door was locked as well. The inmates told corrections officers they were trying to enter the control room. Now both are charged with Attempted Jail Escape.
