A total of six persons may have been injured in a Saturday afternoon two-vehicle crash in Newport. Newport Patrol Officer Bobby Henderson said the 3 pm crash occurred on the Cosby Road at the I-40 exit ramp. Peggy Wilson, 56, Highwasy 25E was traveling on the Cosby Road when she was hit by a vehicle which was exiting the interstate. Wilson and her three passengers sustained "possible" injuries, according to Officer Henderson, however none was taken to the hospital. The second driver, Valerie Garcia, 57, Clarksville, TN., and her passenger, Alex Santos, 18, were both flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. After treatment in the emergency room, both were released. The officer said after the initial crash, the Wilson vehicle careened into a utility pole, leaving heavy damage.
