Bob Self obit Former Newport businessman Robert (Bob) Self died Sunday at his home. Bob owned and operated the Texaco Station on Broadway for several years and his primary business was Bob Self Auto Parts. As a public servant, he contributed to Cocke County in many ways. He was active in the Lion’s club and served on several boards including the Union Cemetery Board, Cocke County Library Board, and was elected to the Newport Board of Aldermen where he oversaw the management of the Newport Community Center. Bob served as a board member at Newport Federal Bank for over 30 years. He also was active in the Presbyterian Church and filled many roles including deacon and elder. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 18th at the Presbyterian Church on Hedrick Drive in Newport from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 7 pm. A graveside service will be held at the Mulberry Gap Cemetery on Blue Mill Road in Del Rio at 11 a.m. Thursday. Arrangements by Manes Funeral Home of Newport.
