Stewart stabbed, Ray is charged
A Jefferson County man is hospitalized and a Newport man faces charges in a Tuesday evening stabbing incident in the Swansylvania community of Jefferson County. Sheriff GW 'Bud' McCoig said his deputies responded to a residence on Jersey Way, Dandridge following reports of a stabbing just before 6 pm. Officers were told by Joshua Adam Stewart, 33, Jersey Way, that he had been stabbed in the lower abdomen by his cousin, Emanuel Ray. Stewart said he was walking from his residence to a nearby mobile home to talk with family members when he argued with Ray, 33, Third Street, Newport. There was a "brief argument over issues in the past' and then there was a physical fight before he was stabbed, the injured man told investigators. Stewart was flown by medical helicopter to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville where at last report he was in stable condition. Ray was placed in the Jefferson County jail on Aggravated Assault charges.
