Summers is sentenced
A Cocke County man arrested in 2013 in connection with a heroin possession case, now has received a federal prison term. James Summers, 24, Country View Way, Newport, admitted in federal court that he had firearms stolen from the home of his brother. But he later tried to withdraw the plea, arguing that Cocke County Lt. CJ Ball had entered his motel room without a legitimate reason. Summer argued that he was not the burglar, but that the theft was committed by a co-defendant. Both co-defendants cooperated with investigators. US Magistrate Judge Clifton Corker denied the motion, and sentenced Summers to 84 months in prison.
