James charged with Solicitation of Exploitation of a Minor Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes says Darnell Roy James, 49, Piney Grove Road, Greeneville, was taken into custody Wednesday by Cocke County Detective Lt. Robert Thornton. James is charged with Solicitation of Exploitation of a Minor by Electronic Means. According to the sheriff, the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office was contacted approximately a month ago after a juvenile female informed her parents that an adult male was communicating with her electronically and making sexual advances on Facebook. Detective Thornton began an investigation and contacted Detective Michael Stallings with the Jefferson City Police Department who specializes in internet crimes. With the consent of the girl's parents, officers used the girl's Facebook account to communicate with the suspect. Over the course of the investigation James informed the child he would bring his horses to Newport they could go horseback riding and take a long break to “kiss and rub on each other. “ Detective Stallings, posing as the child sent James a message suggesting they could meet, and saying she told her parents that she was staying with a friend. The perpetrator then agreed to meet the child, but when Stallings arrived at a non-disclosed location, he was taken into custody by the detective. The sheriff expressed his appreciation to both detectives saying, “I am thankful for the excellent investigation these detectives conducted and I am proud they prevented a child from being victimized.”
