Arrest in wood splitter theft
An Asheville, NC man was arrested Friday in the Tuesday night theft of a log splitter from the Tractor Supply store in the Western Plaza Shopping Center in Newport. Newport Detective Jason Ramsey said David Allison Cody, 45, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge in Erwin and was identified as the suspect in the $1,399 theft. Officer Ramsey said further investigation revealed that Cody also was wanted for the recent theft of another log splitter from the Tractor Supply store in Johnson City. As a result, Cody is charged with two counts of theft over $1,000.
