Hawkins officer involved shooting
At the request of 3rd District Attorney General Dan Armstrong, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in Hawkins County. Preliminary information indicates that the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office received information that a male subject wanted on felony warrants out of Dickenson County, Virginia was at a residence on Okolona Road in Church Hill. Deputies responded to the residence and spotted the subject in a vehicle in the driveway. Deputies approached the car and asked the man to show them his hands. At that point, the subject reached for a gun. One of the deputies fired shots, striking the subject, identified as Eugene Loftis, 25, of Church Hill. He was pronounced dead at the scene, however the deputies were not injured.
