Valentine is the new rescue squad Capyain
The Newport Rescue Squad held it's Sixtieth Annual Banquet Friday evening. Clifton "Pud" Valentine was installed as the new Captain. Outgoing Captain, Josh Hall tells the NewsSource that 2017 was a busy year for the squad. "We had a total of 2,995 volunteered man-hours last year, and drove 15,120 miles. The squad made 168 crash calls," Captain Holt said. The squad broke ground in 2017 on a substation which will be shared with the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department. The facility is coming along well, and Captain Hall says the roof has been ordered. "We took in just over $75,000 but we paid out $96,000. It takes a lot of money to operate the Squad with vehicle and building maintenance, nearly $30,000 for insurance, we bought new turn-out gear, utility bills, and we have expenses for training that we have to attend," he said.
