Chestnut tree giveaway
The Appalachian Chestnut Initiative in conjunction with Newport Utilities, will give away bareroot Chestnut trees this Saturday 9 am to 1 pm, Outside Fox Den Restaurant on Highway 107 in Del Rio. For years the American Chestnut has been dying because of a blight and the local effort is to "return the American Chestnut back to the forest". The one year seedlings range in height from 18 to 24 inches tall, and the goal is to give away 1,000 trees. Call 423-248-8453 for more information.
