Sgt. Hollis Emmons recognized
A Cocke County Sheriff's Deputy is being recognized for his quick response to a man who suffered a heart attack in the Cocke County Courthouse. On March 15, Michael Winter, 73, of Parrottsville was at the sheriff's office filing a complaint when he fell to the floor, and appeared to be going into cardiac arrest. A call was made for an ambulance however Sgt. Hollis Emmons was told no ambulance was available. So the officer sprinted to the second floor of the courthouse where he grabbed a mounted defibrillator. After hooking up the device to the victim, "the machine immediately told me to administer a shock to Mr. Winter." The officer also began CPR, and obtained a pulse on Winter. The officer says firefighters with the Newport Fire Department also assisted and Mr. Winter of Long Creek Road survived.
