Power outage
A vehicle struck a pole on East Highway 25/70 this morning knocking out power to many customers of Newport Utilities. Electric Manager Jimmy Robertson in a release at 3:22am said East Newport, Wilton Springs & Parrottsville substations tripped offline. Crews are in the process of restoring power. A major pole on Asheville Highway was hit and broken in the crash however central dispatch tells the NewsSource that no serious injuries resulted. Robertson says lines were switched to restore power to all except a few customers on the Asheville Hwy from Eastport bridge to Irish Cut until the pole could be replaced.
