Buckner injury
Cocke County authorities are trying to piece together the Monday scenario which led to a Bybee man being flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg said he responded to Nease Road where he found Dustin Buckner, 23, Buckner Road, lying on the lawn with serious facial injuries. There were various stories regarding the incident from three witnesses on the scene. Walter Edens,52, City View Drive, Newport, who had an odor of alcohol on his person, said he was riding with Buckner when their auto was blocked by two other individuals identified as Jesse Heatherly,33 and William Daniels, 39, both of Nease Road, Bybee. He said Buckner pulled a knife on the two men after his vehicle was blocked. Heatherly said he grabbed a pipe and when Buckner appeared to be preparing to exit his car, Heatherly struck him several times with the pipe. And Daniels said Buckner had swung the knife at him. Edens was charged with Public Intoxication and then was taken to the Newport Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained. The investigation is continuing and Buckner is to be interviewed when he is cleared medically to do so.
