Candidates for governor poll
U.S. Rep. Diane Black has higher name recognition than any other candidate in the Tennessee governor's race but voters have higher negative views of her than her opponents,so says a new poll from Vanderbilt University. The survey found 86 percent of respondents recognized Black's name. Randy Boyd, who is also seeking the Republican nomination, had the second highest name recognition, with 68 percent. In terms of the two Democrats in the race — former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh — the poll found Dean with a more positive view. Fitzhugh trails Dean in terms of name recognition by more than 30 percentage points and respondents have a higher negative view of him. The latest poll also found that Dean was performing better among independents than any other candidate for governor. Sixty percent of independents had a favorable of Dean.
