Rural health grants
First District Congressman Rep. Phil Roe, (R-TN) has announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)has awarded more than $7 million to health clinics in the District. Rural Medical Services, in Newport, will receive $1,864,000, and Rural Health Services Consortium, Inc.in Rogersville, will receive $3,163,000. Said Roe, ďAs a physician for over 30 years, Iíve seen first-hand how community health centers help take care of some of our most underserved populations. Thatís why Iím very pleased rural health centers are receiving the attention they deserve and obtaining crucial federal grants, which help so many East Tennesseans. I am confident this funding will assist folks in need of community health centers for generations to come.Ē Through the Health Center Cluster Program, the grants are awarded in order to help improve the health care of vulnerable populations.
