Association Health Plans
The Trump administration has released a final rule that clears the way for an unprecedented expansion of so-called “Association Health Plans,” which are exempt from critical insurance safeguards. Families USA says many association health plans are expected to pursue strategies that are carefully designed to keep people with pre-existing conditions from buying policies. The sale of these substandard plans is also expected to cause a rise in health care premiums for people buying standard coverage through the individual marketplace. But First District US Representative Phil Roe argues the Plans will save money. This announcement is great news for small businesses and their employees since it will allow them to group together to increase their purchasing power and shop for health care plans in the same way large businesses and corporations already do," Roe said. "Because of their size, large employers often have advantages over smaller employers in negotiations with insurers and are able to offer more competitively-priced health plans. I strongly support these Plans because they could greatly benefit millions of Americans who work for a small business or operate a sole proprietorship with lower costs and increased options for health coverage. " Families USA, is a national voice for health care consumers, dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care and improved health for all.
