Search continues on Douglas Lake
At last report the search was continuing for a drowning victim on Douglas Lake in Jefferson County. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agent Matthew Cameron on Thursday released the name of the July 4th. Victim. Hector Guillermo Mercado Perez, 24, lived in Norton, VA. At about 3:30 PM, Perez went missing after he went swimming from a pontoon boat on the lake. Witnesses on board the boat said the victim swam away from the boat several feet and began to struggle prompting a male passenger on the boat to enter the water to make a rescue attempt which was unsuccessful. "The victim went under the water and never resurfaced. The man who made the rescue attempt has been treated for some medical issues and is expected to be OK," Cameron said. Rescue Squad crews from five agencies along with a TWRA Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle(ROV), have been involved in the search.
