Jail escapee captured
Cocke County authorities have arrested a Sevierville man wanted by Hancock County authorities on an Escape warrant. Deputy Lt. Bob Schaff said he responded to the English Mountain Dragstrip at 10:15 pm on Saturday, on a report of a possible escaped male from the Hancock County jail. The officer had information that Johnny R. Loveday, 47, had been at the Walmart store in Newport earlier in the evening, and had gone to the dragstrip with another male. At the scene Cocke County and Newport officers were told that Loveday had been at the site, but witnesses did not know where he had gone. Lt. Schaff said he found the escapee hiding under a pickup truck near a wooded area. The was taken into custody on a Fugitive from Justice charge.
