East Broadway work continues Water Works construction on Broadway continues to move along well, according to Newport Utilities Water Works Manager, Clint Hammonds.. Hammonds said Monday that the tie in at Cosby Hwy did take one day longer than anticipated due to the existing waterline being more than 8 ft. deep under an old box culvert storm structure. Rather than making a tie in at that depth and location, the new line was extended down Cosby Hwy and Church Street to alleviate the dangerous conditions and extra depth. “The good news is paving is scheduled for today to complete work at the intersection. When the pavement cools enough to allow motorists on it, traffic will be open on East Broadway to McMahan Ave and on to Northport and Parrottsville. “This should be a welcomed change for motorists,” adds Hammonds.
