Best Western thefts
Several recent guests at the Best Western Motel in Newport over the July 4 holiday, tell Newport police their motel rooms were burglarized. Shaquei Belcher, Charlotte, NC told Newport Captain Amy Gentry that four pieces of jewelry valued at $18,500 were taken while she was gone from her room. Belcher says a key had to be used to enter the room. This week Teddy Russell of South Carolina reported $200 in cash was taken from his room. Captain Gentry was told that an employee of the motel has since been fired and she is a suspect in the thefts that are being investigated by Detective Scott Lamb.
