Lewis arrested on meth charges
An alleged methamphetamine dealer, indicted in April by a Cocke County Grand Jury, now is in custody. Edward Steven Lewis, 38, Lark Road, Newport was arrested by Newport police on a charge of Sale and Delivery Of Methamphetamine In A Drug Free Zone, Sale And Delivery Of Methamphetamine Over .5 Gram,two counts Sale And Delivery of Methamphetamine and Sale And Delivery Of A Counterfeit Controlled Substance.In addition Lewis was wanted on a Probation Violation. The suspect was named on the sealed presentment in April, on the charges filed by Drug Agent David Robertson of the Cocke County Sheriffs Department. The sale in a drug free zone allegedly took place near the Stokely Memorial Library in downtown Newport. Bond on the drug charges is set at $100,000, however Lewis is being held without bond on the Probation Violation.
