Martin couple found
An elderly Newport couple, missing since Saturday was found Wednesday morning in Charleston, West Virginia. William Casey Huffman told Newport Captain Amy Gentry that his parents, Charles Raymond Martin, 81, and Mary Lou Martin, 83, who suffer from Dementia and other medical issues, had left their home telling a home health nurse they were moving back to West Virginia. The nurse said she could not legally prevent the couple from leaving and so she contacted Huffman and followed the couple to North Street where they headed south. Last week Mr. Martin had asked a neighbor to take him to the Greyhound bus station, and he ended up in West Virginia, sleeping on the street for three days before being found by police and returned to Newport. Huffman said his father had been told by his physician he may not drive. Captain Gentry said a police officer found the couple's van in the parking lot of a Salvation Army location on Wednesday. The couple was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of dehydration.
