Clark to play Pebble Beach The grandson of retired Newport Dentist Dr. George Clark and his wife Joyce, has qualified for the 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship next month at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. Lee University sophomore Brian Clark, a Farragut High graduate, had a second-place 2-under-par 142 in the sectional qualifier at the Deerfield Golf and Country Club in Brockport, N.Y. last week. "This opportunity means the world to me. I can go play two world-class golf courses against the best amateurs in the world, which is just an amazing experience to say the least," said Clark in a release from Lee University. "Qualifying for the top amateur event in the world is a big deal, and it's going to be a great experience for him," coach John Maupin said. "This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and effort he's been putting in." The 2018 U.S. Amateur will be hosted Aug. 13-19. The field will feature 312 of the best amateur golfers from around the world. The low 64 scorers from stroke play qualify for match play. If necessary, a playoff will be conducted to determine the final spots in the match-play draw.
