Legal aid seminar for seniors Attorneys with Legal Aid of East Tennessee will be at Newport Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Hedrick Drive, on Thursday. July 26, at 10 am for a free educational presentation on senior legal issues. Anyone is welcome to attend this event, including family members of seniors. Following the educational presentation, the attorneys will meet with qualifying seniors who are in need of legal advice, representation, or legal documents, at no cost. Legal Aid attorneys provide legal services to seniors on civil legal issues such as wills, power of attorney, living wills, housing issues, elder abuse and financial exploitation, guardianships, consumer issues, and access to benefits and healthcare. A Senior my qualify to receive legal services if (1) they live in Cocke or one of the 26 counties of the service area, (2) they are 60 or older, (3) they are a citizen or legal resident of the United States, and (4) they have limited/low income. If you meet the requirements listed above and would like to meet with an attorney at this event, you should call the Cocke County Office on Aging to pick up and fill out a Client Application and Client Fact Statement form prior to the meeting. This is the date and time of the monthly Seniors potluck luncheon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Attendees must enter at the back of the church.
