Jefferson/Cocke County pursuit
Two individuals are in custody following an early morning Thursday pursuit which began in Jefferson County and ended in Cocke County. Jefferson County Sheriff G.W. "Bud" McCoig said the black 2008 Toyota had been reported stolen from Jennifer Lowery of Strawberry Plans on July 20. As a result, Jefferson County Detective Pam Taylor had issued warrants for Joe Lynch, 27 of Powell and Chelsie Lauderdale, 25 of Strawberry Plains, charging them in the theft. At about 4 am, Jefferson County officers spotted the vehicle, which had been spray painted white, on Highway 25/70 near Dandridge and began a pursuit, but the auto would not stop. It was chased through White Pine on Highway 25E and into Newport where Cocke County Deputy Daniel Smith deployed spike strips. The auto went into the parking lot behind the Krystal Restaurant on West Broadway, where it ran into bushes and came to a stop. Lynch faces charges of Theft over $1,000, Felony Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and other charges are pending the continuing investigation. Lauderdale is charged with Theft Over $1,000 and other charges are pending.
